The
red sheep of the Ashley family, I'm a hospital worker, a cyclocommuter,
a proud adopted Canadian, and a lifelong revolutionary democratic
socialist and union activist. I live in Toronto with my wife Sandie, to
whom I have been married for 30 wonderful years, and our cats.
I worked at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto for over 27 years; I have wound up my full-time career in the Receiving and Stores Department. As of September 2001 I have taken the Hospitals of Ontario Pension and retired to part-time work.
I have been a shop steward and activist in Local 204 of the Service Employees International Union for most of that time.
Politically, I have been a long-time supporter of the New Democratic Party in Canada. My friends back home in the U.S. are building the Labor Party as an alternative for working people to the "banks' parties", as Gore Vidal calls them.
